PRELUDE  -

HYMN – “Dearest Jesus, at Your Word”                                                   LW 202

DIALOG:

P:   Holy is the Lord, the Almighty.

C:  He was, he is, and he is to come.

P:   He is worthy of glory and honor and power.

C:  He created all things.  By his will they came to be.

      P:   Worthy is Christ, the Lamb who was slain;

C:  worthy to take the scroll and break its seals.

P:   By his blood he purchased for God

C:  people of every race and tongue, of every folk and nation.

P:   Christ made of them a kingdom

C:  of priests to serve our God.

P:   And they shall reign on earth forever.

      C:  Amen.  Come, Lord Jesus.

CREED:

P:   God has made us His people through our Baptism into Christ.  Living

together in trust and hope, we confess our faith.

C:  I believe in God, the Father almighty,

            creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord.

He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit

and born of the virgin Mary.

            He suffered under Pontius Pilate,

was crucified, died, and was buried.

            He descended into hell.

On the third day He rose again.

            He ascended into heaven,

and is seated at the right hand of the Father.

He will come again to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,

                  the holy catholic Church,

                  the communion of saints,

                  the forgiveness of sins,

                  the resurrection of the body,

                        and the life everlasting.  Amen

PASSING  of  the  PEACE  and  GREETINGS

OFFERING  -  Sr. Choir: “Sweet Hour of Prayer”  - SH 116

PRAYERS:  There are a number of short prayers  -  at the end of each prayer the

leader will say:  “through Jesus Christ our Lord”

            Congregation:  Amen.

The prayers conclude:

P:   Praise to You, almighty God and Father.  You sent Your Son to live

among us and to bring us Your salvation.  We thank you for all the

blessings we have received, and for all those we name in our hearts

            today.

      C:  Blessed be God.

P:   Praise to You, Lord Jesus Christ, incomparable Son of the Father.  You

humbled Yourself to share in our humanity, and You came to heal all our

            illnesses.

      C:  Blessed be God.

P:   Praise to You, Holy Spirit, our defender and consoler.  You heal our

sickness with Your mighty and life-giving power.

      C:  Blessed be God.

      P:   Holy and blessed Trinity, sustain Your servants with Your presence;

drive away their sickness of body and spirit; and give them that victory

of life and peace which will enable them to serve You now and

             evermore.

      C:  Amen.

ANNOINTING  AND  PRAYER

Those who wish to come forward may come forward just as we do at Communion, and kneel at the communion rail.  There the pastor and some of the servant ministers of Salem will make the sign of the Cross with a little bit of oil on a person’s forehead, and say the words:  O God the Father and the Giver of health and salvation: as the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ, at His command, anointed many that were sick, send now Your Holy Spirit, that Your servant, anointed with this oil, may in repentance and faith be made whole; through the same Jesus Christ, our Lord.  Amen.

What kinds of things do some people desire healing for?  Some have serious diseases like cancer and ask for relief and remission.  For some others healing means of a peaceful death.  Others ask for healing from bitterness, worry, nagging envy or jealousy – or just plain impatience that gets in the way of relationships.

Those who do not desire to come forward for the oil and blessing may remain in the pew and listen to the music, sing the hymns, and pray and meditate about those things in their own life about which they know need the Lord’s healing touch.

S  E N D I N G

      P:   Let us pray:

The almighty Lord – a strong tower to all who put their trust in Him, to

whom all things in heaven, on earth, and under the earth bow and whom

they obey – be now and evermore your defense, and make you know and

feel that the only name under heaven given for health and salvation is the

name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

       C: Amen

      P:   Let us pray.

Merciful Lord God, constant source of all healing, we give You thanks

for all Your gifts of strength and life, and above all we thank You for the

gift of Your Son, through whom we have health and salvation.  As we

wait for that day when there will be no more pain, help us by Your Holy

Spirit to be assured of Your power in our lives and to trust in Your

eternal love; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

      C:  Amen

C:  Our Father, who art in heaven,

hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come,

thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses,

                  as we forgive those who trespass against us;

and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and

                  ever.  Amen.
