Pastor:
Holy Spirit, who moves the hearts of Your people to praise and
thanksgiving, since we are come together into this place of
worship
to offer gratitude and glory for God’s endless gifts to us, we
bid
Your presence among us, together with the presence of our Lord
Jesus Christ, and of the heavenly Father who created and still
preserves us, one God, our God, world without end.

Let heaven praise Yahweh; praise Him heavenly heights,

praise Him, all His angels, praise Him, all His armies!

Praise Him, sun and moon, praise Him, shining stars,

Let them all praise the name of Yahweh, at whose command they
were created;
People:
He has fixed them in their place for ever, by an unalterable
statue.

Let earth praise Yahweh: sea-monsters

Pastor:
Next let us praise illustrious men, our ancestors in their
successive generations.
People:
The Lord has created an abundance of glory, and displayed
His greatness from earliest times.
Pastor:
Some wielded authority as kings and were renowned for their
strength; others were intelligent advisers and uttered prophetic
oracles.
Others directed the people by their advice, by their
understanding
of the popular mind, and by the wise words of their teaching; . .
.
People:
Some of them left a name behind them, so that their praises
are still sung.
Pastor:
While others have left no memory, and disappeared as though
they had not existed.
People:
But here is a list of generous men whose good words have not
been forgotten. In
their descendants there remains a rich
inheritance born of them.
Their descendants stand by the covenants and, thanks to them,
so do their children’s children.
Their offspring will last
forever, their glory will not fade.
Pastor:
Their bodies have been buried in peace, and their name lives on
for
all generations. The peoples will proclaim their wisdom, the

Lord Jesus Christ, Ruler of the affairs of mankind, for the

people who settled our land when it was new and who established

the Spirit, are one God, living and reigning, world without end.

CALL TO
PRAYER
(The Gettysburg Address) Fourscore and seven years ago our
fathers brought forth on this continent a
new nation conceived in liberty, and dedicated to the proposition
that all men
are created equal. Now we are engaged in a great civil
war, testing whether that nation, or any
nation so conceived and so dedicated, can long endure.
We are met on a
great battlefield of that war.
We have come to dedicate a portion of that
field as a final restingplace for those who here gave their lives
that that
nation might live. It
is altogether fitting and proper that we should do this. But, in a larger sense, we can not
dedicate – we can not consecrate – we can
not hallow – this ground.
The brave men, living and dead, who struggled
here, have consecrated it far above our poor power to add or
detract. The
world will little note, nor long remember what we say here, but
it can never
forget what they did here. It
is for us the living rather to be dedicated here to
the unfinished work which they who fought here have thus far so
nobly
advanced. It is
rather for us to be here dedicated to the great task remaining
before us – that from these honored dead we take increased
devotion to that
cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion; that
we here
highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain; that
this nation,
under God, shall have a new birth of freedom; and that government
of the
people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the
