ORDER  OF  WORSHIP

G A T H E R I N G

PRELUDE  -  “Beautiful Savior”  -  Johnson

HYMN  -  “”Holy God We Praise Your Name”

      1.   Holy God, we praise Your name; Lord of all, we bow before you.

All on earth your scepter claim, all in heav’n above adore You.

Infinite Your vast domain, everlasting is Your reign.

      4.   You are King of Glory, Christ; Son of God, yet born of Mary.

For us sinners sacrificed, as to death a Tributary,

First to break the bars of death, You have opened heav’n to faith.

      5.   Holy Father, holy Son, Holy Spirit, three we name You,

            Though in essence only one; undivided God we claim You;

And, adoring, bend the knee while we own the mystery.

INVOCATION  -

Pastor:     In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

People:               Amen.

Pastor:     We worship God the Father:

People:   How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should

be called children of God!                                                     (1 John 3:1)

Pastor:     We worship God the Son.

People:   In the past God spoke to our forefathers through the prophets at

many times and in various ways, but in these last days He has

spoken to us by His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, and

through whom He made the universe.                            (Hebrews 1:1-2)

Pastor:     We worship God the Holy Spirit:

People:   God has poured out His love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit,

whom he has given us.                                                        (Romans 5:5 b)

CONFESSION  AND  ABSOLUTION  -

Pastor:     I ask you before God, who searches your heart:  Do you sincerely

confess that you have sinned against God and have deserved His wrath

               and punishment?

People:   I do confess.

Pastor:     From your heart, do you repent of all your sins of thought, word,

            action, and inaction?

People:   I do repent.

Pastor:     Do you believe that God, by grace, for Jesus’ sake, will forgive you all

               your sins?

People:   I do believe.

Pastor:     Do you promise that with the aid of the Holy Spirit you will, from this

time forward, amend your sinful life?

People:   I do promise.

Pastor:     Do you believe that through me, a called servant of God, you will

receive the forgiveness of all your sins?

People:   I do believe.

Pastor:     As you believe, so may it be for each of you.  Upon this your

confession, I, by virtue of my office, as a called and ordained servant

of the Word, announce the grace of God to all of you, and in the stead

and by the command of my Lord Jesus Christ I forgive you all your

sins in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

People:      Amen.

KYRIE/HYMN OF PRAISE  -  “Come, Holy Ghost, God and Lord”  -

1.   Come, Holy Ghost, God and Lord, with all your graces now outpoured

On each believer’s mind and heart; Your fervent love to them impart.

      Lord, by the brightness of your light in holy faith your Church unite;

From ev’ry land and ev’ry tongue this to your praise, O Lord, our

            God, be sung:  Alleluia, alleluia!

2.   Come, holy Light, guide divine, now cause the Word of life to shine.

Teach us to know our God aright and call him Father with delight.

From ev’ry error keep us free; Let none but Christ our master be

That we in living faith abide, in him, our Lord, with all our might

            confide.  Alleluia, alleluia!

3.   Come, holy Fire, comfort true, grant us the will your work to do

And in your service to abide; let trials turn us not aside.

Lord, by your pow’r prepare each heart, and to our weakness

            strength impart

That bravely here we may contend, through life and death to you,

            our Lord, ascend.  Alleluia, alleluia!

HYMN  OF  THE  DAY - “Thy Strong Word”   -

      1.   Thy strong word did cleave the darkness;

At thy speaking it was done.

For created light we thank thee, while thine ordered seasons run.

REFRAIN:  Alleluia, alleluia!  Praise to thee who light dost sent!

                                 Alleluia, alleluia!  Alleluia without end!

SERMON  -  “Who Are You, Really?”  -  Mark 6:1-6

CREED  -  Apostles  Creed  (rise)  -

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth.

And in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried.  He descended into hell.  The third day he rose again from the dead.  He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty.  From thence he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting.  Amen
