ORDER  OF  WORSHIP

G A T H E R I N G

PRELUDE

HYMN  -  “Lord, Take My Hand and Lead Me”

      1.   Lord, take my hand and lead me upon life’s way;

            Direct, protect, and feed me from day to day.

            Without your grace and favor I go astray;

            So take my hand, O Savior, and lead the way.

      2.   Lord, when the tempest rages, I need not fear;

            For you, the Rock of Ages, are always near.

            Close by your side abiding, I fear no foe,

            For when your hand is guiding, in peace I go.

      3.   Lord, when the shadows lengthen and night has come,

            I know that you will strengthen my steps toward home,

                And nothing can impede me, O blessed Friend!

            So, take my hand and lead me unto the end.

INVOCATION

CONFESSION  &  ABSOLUTION  -

Pastor:     They went out and preached that people should repent.          (Mark 6:12)

People:   For He chose us in Him before the creation of the world to be holy

               and blameless in His sight.                                                (Ephesians 1:4)

Pastor:     God calls us to confess our sins and repent of them.

                (silence for reflection)

               Almighty and all-merciful God,

People:   we confess before You that we are sinners, sinful from birth.  We

               have sinned in our thoughts, words, and actions.  We have not

               loved You with all our heart, soul, and mind, nor have we loved

               our neighbor as ourselves.  Forgive us for the sake of Jesus. Amen.

Pastor:               Through Jesus, God has freely lavished on us His grace. In Him we

               have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins.  Therefore,

               as a called and ordained servant of the Word, I announce the grace of

               God to all of you, and in the stead and by the command of my Lord

               Jesus Christ I forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father and

               of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

People:               Thanks be to God.  Amen.

KYRIE/HYMN  OF  PRAISE – “At the Lamb’s High Feast We Sing”

      1.   At the Lamb’s high feast we sing

            Praise to our victorious king,

            Who has washed us in the tide

            Flowing from his pierced side. Alleluia!

      7.   Easter triumph, Easter joy!

            This alone can sin destroy;

            From sin’s pow’r, Lord, set us free,

            Newborn souls in you to be.  Alleluia!

      8.   Father, who the crown shall give,

            Savior, by whose death we live,

            Spirit, guide through all our days:

            Three in One, your name we praise.  Alleluia!

HYMN OF THE DAY - “Let Us Talents & Tongues Employ”

      1.   Let us talents and tongues employ, reaching out with a shout of joy:

            Bread is broken, the wine is poured, Christ is spoken and seen and

                  heard.

REFRAIN:  Jesus lives again, earth can breathe again, pass the Word

                                  around: loaves abound!

      2.   Christ is able to make us one, at the table he sets the tone,

            Teaching people to live to bless, love in word and in deed express.

REFRAIN.

      3.   Jesus calls us in, sends us out bearing fruit in a world of doubt,

            Gives us love to tell, bread to share:  God (Immanuel) ev’rywhere!

REFRAIN.

SERMON:  “Suffering and Growing” – Colossians 1:21-28

CREED  -  Apostles’  Creed – Third Article – Luther’s Small Catechism

Sanctification

I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy Christian church, the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting.  Amen.

What does this mean?

I believe that I cannot by my own reason or strength believe in Jesus Christ, my Lord, or come to Him;  but the Holy Ghost has called me by the Gospel, enlightened me with His gifts, sanctified and kept me in the true faith;  even as He calls, gathers, enlightens, and sanctifies the whole Christian church on earth, and keeps it with Jesus Christ in the one true faith; in which Christian church He daily and richly forgives all sins to me and all believers, and will at the Last Day raise up me and all the dead, and give unto me and all believers in Christ eternal life.  This is most certainly true.

                      Or be held in sin’s dread sway;

“I’ve Got Peace Like A River”

1.   I’ve got peace like a river, I’ve got peace like a river.

      I’ve got peace like a river in my soul.

      I’ve got peace like a river, I’ve got peace like a river,

      I’ve got peace like a river in my soul.

2.   I’ve got love like an ocean, I’ve got love like an ocean,

      I’ve got love like an ocean in my soul.

      I’ve got love like an ocean, I’ve got love like an ocean,

      I’ve got love like an ocean in my soul.

3.   I’ve got joy like a fountain, I’ve got joy like a fountain,

      I’ve got joy like a fountain in my soul.

      I’ve got joy like a fountain, I’ve got joy like a fountain,

      I’ve got joy like a fountain, in my soul.

“I Love You, Lord”

      I love You, Lord, and I lift my voice
      To worship You; O my soul, rejoice!

      Take joy, my King, in what You hear;

      May it be a sweet, sweet sound in Your ear.

                                                         S E N D I N G

CANTICLE  -  “O Lord, We Praise You”

      May God bestow on us His grace and favor

      To please Him with our behavior

      And live together here in love and union

      Nor repent this blest communion.  O Lord, have mercy!

      Let not your good Spirit forsake us,

      But that heav’nly – minded he make us;

      Give your Church, Lord, to see days of peace and unity.

      O Lord, have mercy!

PRAYER & BENEDICTION

HYMN  -  “Love Divine”

      1.   Love divine, all loves excelling, joy of heaven, to earth come down,

            Fix in us thy humble dwelling, all thy faithful mercies crown.

            Jesus, thou art all compassion, pure, unbounded love thou art;

            Visit us with thy salvation, enter every trembling heart.

      2.   Come, almighty to deliver, let us all thy life receive;

            Suddenly return, and never, never more thy temples leave.

            Thee we would be always blessing, serve thee as thy hosts above,

            Pray, and praise thee without ceasing, glory in thy perfect love.

      3.   Finish then thy new creation; pure and spotless let us be;

            Let us see thy great salvation perfectly restored in thee;

            Changed from glory into glory, till in heaven we take our place,

            Till we cast our crowns before thee, lost in wonder, love, and praise.
